    Agop Tomurcuk (born 1941, Istanbul) began working as a cymbal apprentice at age 9 and became chief cymbal-smith at Turkey’s only cymbal factory until it closed in 1977. Determined to preserve the Turkish handmade cymbal tradition, he founded his own workshop in Istanbul, overcoming severe financial and physical challenges.

    In 1980, he partnered to form Zilciler Kollektif Şti., later renamed Istanbul Cymbals, which quickly expanded internationally after debuting at the NAMM Show. His sons, Sarkis and Arman, joined the company and helped drive its global growth.

    After Agop’s passing in 1996, they founded Istanbul Agop in 1997, continuing his legacy by blending traditional craftsmanship with modern innovation, growing into one of the world’s leading handmade cymbal brands.
